Marisa DiNovis grew up in New York with her eyes glued to library copies of The Babysitters Club, The Penderwicks, and I Am the Messenger. While attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, she developed a rabid love for college sports and the best collective noun of all time: y’all. Since joining Knopf in 2015, Marisa has published books in every format for every age group—but she’s especially at home in middle grade and young adult fiction. She is drawn to sharp, thought-provoking voices that pull a reader in from the very first sentence; tends to prefer grounded contemporary, realistic, or historical settings; and it takes a lot to make her laugh or cry—bonus points to any manuscript that can do either, or both! Marisa loves heartfelt coming-of-age stories and characters who make bad decisions and who make readers swoon in equal turn. If she’s not reading, there’s a near-100% chance Marisa is planning her next trip, throwing a ball for her dog, or experiencing a new version of the world with her young son.
